After teasing its first Super Bowl ad with an ‘Expensify This’ four-minute music video, expense management app Expensify has released its first-ever Super Bowl commercial, starring rapper 2 Chainz and actor Adam Scott.

The campaign features a full 60-second Super Bowl commercial and a 30-second cut that will air nationally during the second quarter of the big game.

The Super Bowl campaign was developed with creative collective JohnXHannes New York and directed by Andreas Nilsson of Biscuit Filmworks. The 60-second spot sees 2 Chainz in a music video, an icy landscape with Egyptian-style dancers. 2 Chainz raps as he heads to an ice-covered convertible, complete with a seafood tray on the hood. As he gets inside, Scott’s character comes up and says he is from “record label finance” and that he needs paper receipts for all the bling in the video. 2 Chainz states matter-of-factly, “Nah, I have Expensify for that,” before driving off.

In the commercial during the game, viewers will see a receipt for 2 Chainz’ ride – a decked-out ice car. Simply downloading the Expensify app and snapping a photo of the receipt will enter them to win the cash value of the car.

“Over the past ten years, Expensify has spread like wildfire with zero advertising, growing solely through word-of-mouth,” said David Barrett, founder and chief executive officer of Expensify. “It’s all led up to this – our first-ever national TV spot running during the most-highly anticipated and most-watched moment of the year: the Super Bowl. What’s even more epic is that this is the first commercial you can actually expense, and fans will have the chance to win more than $200,000 during our ad on game day. Who else can say that? It’s the coolest product demo we could ever ask for.”

Expensify’s Super Bowl ad is one part of the brand’s new marketing campaign, ‘You Weren't Born to Do Expenses,’ which kicked off last week with an interactive music video featuring 2 Chainz and Adam Scott that has already received over one million views. From now until February 4, fans will have the opportunity to get actual cash or win the items in the video by downloading the Expensify app, snapping photos of the various receipts, and submitting them for a chance to win prizes including an Audi R8, a gold jet ski, a diamond-encrusted football, a 2 Chainz bust and more.

“So much creativity and collaboration went into making this video,” said 2 Chainz. “It was really over the top and a lot of fun. I’m excited to be in the Expensify Super Bowl campaign and can’t wait for everyone to see the spot.”

Added Scott: “I’ve always wanted to be in a hip-hop video and a Super Bowl commercial, so mission accomplished. Thanks 2 Chainz and Expensify for making it happen.”
