Alibaba Pictures has launched a teaser film to promote the release of the Peppa Pig film, ‘Peppa Celebrates Chinese New Year’ in China.

Alibaba Pictures has created a trailer to promote Peppa Pig's Chinese New Year film

The trailer film, called “What is Peppa?” follows the heartwarming journey of a rural Chinese grandfather on a quest to discover what Peppa is, in order to bring his beloved grandson the perfect Chinese New Year gift.

The teaser film aims to promote the release of the full-length Peppa Pig film, which has been co-produced by Alibaba Pictures and Entertainment One to cater specifically to Chinese audiences.

The Peppa Pig film will be released on Chinese New Year (5 February) to mark the first day of the Year of the Pig. It aims to tap into Peppa Pig’s huge fan base in China and will encourage families to visit the cinema together over the Chinese New Year holiday.

The film will feature many traditional Chinese customs and will also introduce new characters including the Panda twins.

The teaser was released on 20 January and has already attracted more than 60 million views and the hashtag #WhatIsPeppa has been viewed more than 720 million times.

Speaking at the announcement of the film last year, Alibaba Pictures president Wei Zhang, said, “The ‘Peppa Pig’ series emphasizes the importance of family values, and that is something that will deeply resonate with Chinese audiences. We hope this family film will pave the way for further development of films for young audiences in China.”
