Burger King hijacks MacCoin promotion as McDonald's beef continues

Over the last few years, Burger King has remained intent on beefing with burger rival McDonald's. Its latest effort sees it hijacking a Big Mac 50th anniversary promotion.

Back in August McDonald's US released MacCoins commemorating the 50th anniversary of its Big Mac burger. 14,000 stores gave out the coins to customers buying Big Macs, it entitled them to claim back a free burger before the close of 2018.

Now as 2019 commences, Burger King Chicago has announced that expired Mac Coins can be used to claim a free Big King XL, its new burger it claims has 175% more beef than its rival patty.

There are hoops to jump through, access to the MacCoins and the campaign being confined to Chicago will limit the volume of free burgers Burger King will have to distribute.

It still serves as a bold attempt to sully its rival's celebration of its iconic Big Mac product.

The stunt from Alison Brod PR looks to launch the new sandwich and play true to the brand, by grilling McDonald's.

From 17 January to 31, Grubhub users can try the BIG KING XL Sandwich for free.
