Bytedance sets its sights on WeChat with new app called 'Duoshan'

The new app, which is called ‘Duoshan’, behaves like Instagram Stories and Snapchat.

Bytedance has launched a new application that allows users to send short-lived videos, GIFs, and images to each other.

The new app, which is called ‘Duoshan’, behaves like Instagram Stories and Snapchat. Bytedance, the owner of Jinri Toutiao and TikTok, however, is more concerned with challenging Tencent’s WeChat, which currently has more than a billion monthly active users worldwide,

WeChat currently has Moments, which is similar to Facebook’s News Feed, and launched Time Capsule in December 2018, a carbon copy of Instagram Stories and Snapchat as well.

Tencent recently announced it is planning to launch its voice assistant Xiaowei in WeChat, as well as introduce more advertising formats and increase inventory available on the platform.
