The Drum 10K Media Challenge to take place in September at Aintree

The Drum 10K Media Challenge

Alongside The Aintree Classic Run, The Drum is to host a 10K running challenge in a bid to bring together the media and marketing communities in order to raise money for good causes.

The Drum 10K Media Challenge, in association with The Roses Awards, will take place at Aintree Race Course on 8 September, allowing the industry to submit teams to participate at the iconic horseracing venue. Alongside the 10K, there will also be a 5K, 3K, junior run and a family mile taking place throughout the Aintree Classic Run Series.

The event will see teams of four runners each from media and marketing businesses enter the 10K challenge. Each runner’s time will be monitored and the fastest three combined will serve as the final score. The fastest overall team will take home The Drum’s special Aintree Roses Award on the day.

Hollicom Events, which is organising the race alongside newspaper publisher Reach and The Jockey Club, have confirmed that Liz McColgan and her double Olympian daughter Eilish will take to the field as Classic Run Ambassadors.

The Jockey Club has previously partnered with Brawl to provide racegoers with app-based digital content.

Stephen Lepitak, editor of The Drum, commented: “The Drum 10km Media Challenge has the potential to be a really special event and we’re pleased to host it alongside the 2019 Roses Awards which takes place in advance during the first quarter of the year.

“This publication has a great history of working with the media and marketing sector in the North of England and the regions from the days of running the Creative Cup Football Challenge each year, so it felt right that we aimed to find another way to bring the community together to do something that benefits others while also helping promote health and wellbeing at the same time. I hope we’ll see a great deal of support to make this event a success. When else will anyone get a chance to run on such a historic racecourse too?”

Teams can enter for a special entry fee of £128. £25 from each entry will be donated to three charities chosen by The Drum, which will be announced at a later date. The fee will be automatically generated through the use of the special DRUM20OFF discount code.
