Coca-Cola France throws some unsportsmanlike shade on the English football team in a festive holiday campaign, which pays tribute to the French Football National Team.

To commemorate two significant events in the 2018 French calendar, Christmas and this year's triumphant World Cup Final, Coca-Cola has produced a special Christmas tree topper.

The drink brand has replaced the traditional star of Bethlehem with a Coca-Cola bottle adorned with two stars; a direct reference to the French National team, which it sponsors. The tree topper is currently being offered as a gift on the Coca-Cola store, for those who see football as a religion.

The ad opens with a delighted England football fan, unwrapping his newly arrived tree topper. As he eagerly places the piece de resistance upon the Christmas tree, one star drops dramatically to the ground, to highlight that unlike France, England has only won the World Cup once.

The shot then moves across to a framed poster that reads 'It's not coming home,' a last mocking jibe against The Three Lions and their semi-final defeat.

The ad was conceived by Herezie Group ad agency.
