Edelman Digital employs 700 people globally. Crampton will be based in London and report to Edelman chief executive Richard Edelman.

“Digital is a central pillar of our communications marketing strategy and has been responsible for half of our growth over the last decade, with global business lines including community management, digital customer service, and influencer engagement and performance marketing,” Edelman said in a statement. “Thomas’ consulting background will now allow us to go deeper on the strategy side, extending from communications into helping our clients transform their businesses through digital.”

Crampton comes over from Ogilvy Consulting, where he served as global principal of their marketing transformation practice.

“I’m incredibly excited to join an agency that is so adept at navigating the substantial and rapid changes in marketing and communications for its clients,” Crampton said in a statement. “As a private, family-owned company, Edelman will continue to invest in talent and capabilities to make digital a leading driver of the firm’s future success.”

Earlier this year, Edelman brought in former WPP executive Marie-Claire Barker as its global chief talent officer.
