Martin Agency, McCann alum Vanessa Fortier joins Minneapolis shop Mono as first ECD

Minneapolis-based agency Mono has announced the hiring as its first-ever executive creative director in Vanessa Fortier.

Starting October 22, the former McCann Worldgroup executive creative director has been tasked with managing and leading the 15-year old agency’s creative department. The oversight of its creative staff was held by co-founders Michael Hart and Chris Lange, who have now split the role of chief creative officer.

Fortier’s past chapters included seven years at The Martin Agency, where she had helped to grow the Benjamin Moore account by 600% and also led award-winning work for Walmart. Prior to Martin, she was a creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi NY.

Michael Hart said in a statement: “We recognized bringing in an executive creative director is important to ensure we have someone 100% focused on inspiring great work every day, while we help grow and evolve the agency. It took us months to find the right person for this role, and know Vanessa will bring both her creative talents and her strong reputation for leadership to help us become even an stronger creative force.”

Lange highlighted her leadership in championing both traditional and nontraditional approaches, adding: “She’s not afraid of the complex or difficult, and she has an impeccable eye for detail and love of production. Everyone we talked with who had worked with her and for her, raved about her as a leader, mentor and partner.”

Fortier said: “Joining Mono was a no brainer. The vibe I got from the super smart, super talented people there was truly inspiring. Michael and Chris have established a happy, enthusiastic culture that cares about its people and the quality of work they put out into the world. It kinda feels like I found my agency soul mate.”

Mono had recently added six new accounts in the first half of 2018, including Sherwin-Williams consumer work, Redbox, Peroni and Leinenkugels brews. Current clientele includes Walmart, Google, and the Loews Hotels chain.
