Amazon plots all out home invasion with Alexa-powered microwave, clock and wall plugs

Just stopping short of a new kitchen sink range, the online retailer is going big on hardware as a showcase for the burgeoning talents of its Alexa voice recognition system, whose talents have mushroomed since a basic system was first revealed in 2014.

Updated speakers include the new Echo Dot, which Amazon claims is 70% louder than previous iterations and Echo Auto, which can connect through your phone to play on your cars own speakers while asking for directions.

Striking out in a different direction of its own Amazon has also introduced a new microwave which comes loaded with ‘dozens of quick cook voice presets’ so you don’t have to lift a finger while zapping your spaghetti carbonara. Advancing further into the home, Amazon will also sell a wall clock you can speak with to set alarms and timers.

Television addicts haven’t been forgotten either with a new Fire TV Recast offered for sale capable of adding over the air channels to the existing Fire TV streaming mix.

The prodigious product powerhouse will also be flogging a smart plug, capable of switching on or off any device attached to it remotely as well as a ring stickup cam for remotely monitoring the environment in which it is placed.

Amazon's ever growing scale has sparked a probe by the EU competition watchdog over its potential misuse of merchant data.
