Hennessy tempts Ridley Scott back to advertising following 15-year hiatus

French cognac brand Hennessy has scored a major coup after tempting renowned Ridley Scott back into advertising to direct its ‘Worlds of Greatness’ campaign – the first to be overseen by the renowned director in 15 years.

Ridley, best known for his Alien franchise and sci-fi epic Bladerunner, will partner with Hennessy for a number of commercials for its X.O cognac. These will premiere in February 2019 and promise a surreal CGI experience to visualise taste.

Scott commented: “I saw the initial script and it immediately triggered something in me. I started scribbling and those scribbles turned into a detailed storyboard and a productive visit in the Cognac region.

“I loved partnering with Hennessy as the creative process was an absolute priority throughout. The result is not simply advertising, it's entertainment.”

‘Worlds of Greatness’ will visualise seven flavours in 3D; Sweet Notes, Rising Heat, Spicy Edge, Flowing Flame, Chocolate Lull and Wood Crunches before culminating with ‘Infinite Echo’, created in collaboration with Foam Studio and advertising agency DDB Paris.

Hennessy has previously employed a hall of mirrors to bring its seven flavours to life.
