Amazon strikes gold in the mundane world of office supplies

Proving that it can turn almost anything it touches into gold Amazon Business is now employed by over half of Britain’s top 100 companies who rely on it for everything from laptops, printer paper and toner to tea and coffee.

In return companies are able to streamline their complex purchase needs through a single supplier, reducing the complexity of procurement and thus saving time and money.

Filling in Business Insider on the secrets of their success Bill Burkland, the UK head of Amazon Business, said: “We've also launched some interesting features that we can see businesses are finding of value. One of those is catalogue curation, which allows a customer to take the 250 million products that are in the Amazon business catalogue and it allows them to create preferred sellers, for example, they can restrict products, they can set policies that allow them to ensure that they'll get a downloadable VAT invoice."

Far removed from the grey stationary supplies world depicted in The Office Amazon Business now straddles the globe, operating in over seventy different countries since its launch in 2015 and stocking over 250m items.

Boasting millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of marketplace vendors Amazon Business operates eight marketplaces including the US, UK and Japan.

Amazon is currently firing on all cylinders with its advertising business alone now worth $2.2bn.
