Weber will join the startup to work alongside founders Lizzie Shupak and John Monks, who were until last year the UK head of innovation and global head of consulting for Digitas LBi, respectively.

Weber, a well-known figure for his work at Karmarama as well as BIMA, where he will continue as chair of its Immersive Technology Think Tank, will also remain a director of Innovation Social.

Weber said "The industry has changed massively in the last six years and I'm hugely proud to have played a role in the way Karmarama has adapted and thrived in that time. I am incredibly excited about Curve and it’s new approach to Innovation and am looking forward to helping our clients unlock the potential of their own talent and ideas.”

Shupak added: "We are thrilled that Lawrence will be joining us to shape the future of the business and build our capabilities to both enable organisations to understand the potential of emerging technology, and to develop the capabilities to scale their ideas to have meaningful impact in the real world."

It is not known if Karmarama plan to replace the innovation role directly but it is understood that Peter Dolukhanov, managing director of Creative Futures, will continue to work with the Accenture-owned agency’s clients alongside recent hires including strategy lead Kaihaan Jamishidi, who has joined from R/GA Ventures.

Ben Bilboul, chief executive of Karmarama, added: “[Weber's] been a key member of our Creative Futures team and has added so much to our innovation capability over the last few years, in addition to being a much liked member of the agency and friend to the wider industry.”

Curve, the consultancy Weber will join, aims to help its clients build sustainable innovation cultures and businesses and pilot them by working with the startup community and clients' own internal teams. It currently works with brands such as HSBC, Comic Relief and Coca-Cola in collaboration with agencies like Made by Many and Albion.
