Automaker Ford has invited Wieden + Kennedy to take the driving seat of an autumnal brand campaign in the midst of a global agency review.

The appointment gives Wieden + Kennedy a critical foot in the door as it jostles with WPP’s Global Team Blue, current incumbents, and Omnicom’s BBDO to secure the prize account in the long-term.

Ford spokeswoman Jennifer Flake remarked: "Ford is launching a U.S. brand campaign in mid-October and we are working with Wieden & Kennedy as a creative partner with WPP to activate the campaign. This is consistent with how we have worked at times in the past decade with agency partners working alongside WPP."

Any switch away from WPP would mark the first time since 1943 in which the world’s 13th largest ad spender hasn’t worked with the advertising and public relations giant.

Ford kick-started its global review in April and has said it expects to name the winner of the review process by the end of the year.
