JD.com partners with hotel brands to push ‘boundaryless retail’ strategy

JD.com has partnered with hotel brands including Sheraton and Wanda to let hotel guests to shop from their hotel rooms.

The move, which is part of JD’s ‘boundaryless retail’ strategy, will see hotel rooms at Sheraton, Wanda, Beijing 5L, Greenland and others furnished with products and QR codes that can be scanned and purchased via JD.com and delivered directly to the hotel.

The products include items such as electric toothbrushes, smart speakers and power banks.

The initiative was launched after JD.com found that many of its more than 300 million customers make purchases while traveling to take advantage of the e-commerce platform’s same-or next-day delivery service.

Jing Zhou, director of JD.com’s lifestyle business, said, “We know from our customers that they love to take the convenience of JD everywhere they go. Working with hotels is a great way to show how boundaryless retail can make that experience even more seamless. By partnering with top hotel brands across China, we can both enhance the experience of hotel guests and offer more targeted, high-quality exposure for our brand partners.”

JD’s 'boundaryless retail' strategy aims to promote online-to-offline retail experiences for Chinese customers and is similar to rival Alibaba’s ‘new retail’ strategy.
