Lil Yachty teams with Donny Osmond to sing the praises of Chef Boyardee Throwback Recipe line

Chef Boyardee canned pastas have been loved by kids for decades, which is why former kid and teen star Donny Osmond and current pop star Lil Yachty have teamed up for an earworm-worthy musical tribute to the brand’s Throwback Recipe series.

For Chef Boyardee’s product campaign, the team at Havas wanted to take a creative play on the nostalgic ‘Thank Goodness for Chef Boyardee’ jingle from the 80s. So to bring attention to the Throwback Recipe series, Havas’ entertainment network, Annex, got the highly unlikely duo to perform the original remix song and music video, written and produced by Lil Yachty, Donny Osmond and Annex.

In the nearly three-minute video, we see Lil Yachty laying down some yellow vinyl playing the familiar child choir theme of the retro-jingle. His auto-tuned voice starts singing the new, equally catchy 'Chef Boyardee. Start the Par-dee' refrain. A

fter a solo stint, Donny Osmond enters the studio eating a bowl of the pasta. The still young-looking star begins singing his own verses, showing off surprising rhythmic dexterity to go along with Yachty’s cadence. Plus, he’s not auto-tuned.

The two dance and sing in various settings, then get into a car as a green screen behind them plays roller coaster and space action behind them. They are clearly having way too much fun.

Instead of releasing another TV spot the product launch, the Annex released the music video to be streamed online, on the radio and social media. This unique work pays tribute to the past and the future of the classic Chef Boyardee brand and both young and older audiences.

The idea to blend Lil Yachty, a Capitol Records recording artist, and Osmond, was born out of a new partnership between Vivendi-owned properties Annex and Capitol Music Group (CMG). Last week, Havas also announced the expansion of Annex to Los Angeles with a new office, called Annex Tower Creative, located in Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood. This alliance is the first of its kind between a US creative agency and an American record label, and it will allow for cross collaboration between brands and artists across CMG’s multiple record labels.
