Microsoft's UK marketing department shake up sees Paul Bolt take on CMO role and Helen Tupper depart

Microsoft is set to shake up its UK marketing department with the promotion of Paul Bolt to chief marketing officer, as Scott Allen takes on a new role and commercial marketing director Helen Tupper departs.

The promotion of Bolt comes as Scott Allen takes on a new ‘international marketing role’ within the business, a spokesperson confirmed to The Drum.

It is not yet clear what Allen’s role will entail although he will continue to be based in the UK, having joined in 2015 from joined from Colt Technology Services following the departure of Phillipa Snare to Facebook.

At Microsoft he has most recently been responsible for the UK consumer and commercial marketing teams as director of small-media businesses at Microsoft.

A spokesperson confirmed: “After three years as UK CMO, Scott Allen will be moving onto his next role within Microsoft.”

Tupper is understood to be leaving to concentrate on her career-focused side projects including Amazing If, the career development and training business.

She had spent over a year in the current role as commercial marketing director after joining Microsoft from Virgin Red, initially holding the post of evangelism marketing director for nine months. It is believed that the appointment of a successor in the role is imminent.

Microsoft is also searching for a brand marketing lead in London for Microsoft Advertising and its search business, Bing.
