According to Singapore local paper Shin Min Daily News, the ad cost S$19,440 and was shown on the screen in front of the Nasdaq tower. It featured a smiling Sun with her hands raised up high, with the words ‘Happy Birthday, Stefanie Sun’ above her image.

The ad was also displayed at the eighth minute of every hour from 6:08am to 1:08am the next day.

Sun’s reaction? “Oh my god! Thank you guys for your crazy surprise!” she exclaimed, according to the paper.

Arguably one of the most successful singers that has emerged from Singapore, Sun has won multiple Golden Melody Awards, the mandopop equivalent to the Grammy Awards. She is well-known throughout Asia Pacific, especially in China, having sold more than 30 million records.
