Storyful, News Corp's social media-driven news organization, has appointed Ben Berkowitz as its new editor-in-chief.
Berkowitz was previously the vice president of digital at WNBC and has two decades of news experience with news organizations NBC, Thomson Reuters, the Associated Press and others.
Berkowitz replaced Mandy Jenkins, who was promoted from head of news to the post in January. Starting in August, he will be taking over responsibility for Storyful’s editorial operation for offices in Dublin, New York, London, Hong Kong, and Sydney.
Also a listed responsibility for Berkowitz is leading new initiatives such as Storyful’s News Intelligence: an investigative research service for newsrooms, and training programs designed to combat misinformation on social media that have plagued publications of consequence worldwide.
Berkowitz said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be joining a team on the cutting-edge of data-driven projects while also maintaining a top-rate, globally-recognized standard for its journalism.”
Sharb Farjami said of the new top editor: “Now is the perfect time for us to bring in an editor with Ben’s pedigree. “Social media is more complex than it has ever been and more vital to newsrooms. With Ben at the helm we’ll help partners meet the challenges of this environment go deeper in their reporting and cover the most important stories in the world.”
