While the ad industry is rife with discussions on the powers of video, Netflix has taken this format to its roots with an infomercial-inspired, VHS ad.

Steve makes a return to promote the Starcourt Mall

The creative introduces the Starcourt Mall, a lead location in season three of Netflix's 80s-themed show, Stranger Things, and it recreates the era's mall experience expertly, with plenty of now-defunct chain stores.

On the topic, Netflix announced: “Coming to Hawkins in the Summer of 1985…the Starcourt Mall! Starcourt Mall will be one of the finest shopping facilities in America and beyond with options for the entire family.

"Including The Gap, Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, Claire’s and more! Don’t forget to cool off at Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream shop. Starcourt Mall has it all!”

The 90-second video claims the mall will open 'next summer', perhaps a hint at when the show will make its return after a multiple-Emmy nominated season two.

The video streaming company, whose shares took a dive after its most recent shareholder call, is set to step up its marketing for the nostalgic TV series.

Here’s how it drove buzz around season two, with multiple brand partners also on board.
