Formula 1, Kodak and UNICEF have all previously scooped the Grand Prix at The Drum Experience Awards, formerly The Drum UK Event Awards.

Velocity Experience (TBA Group) won the Grand Prix award for their work with Formula 1 in 2017

These global awards recognise the power of experiential and celebrate the noteworthy and effective campaigns.

The 2018 judging panel includes Undercurrent’s managing director, Damian Clarke; Hearst Live’s director of events and sponsorship, Victoria Archbold; Geometry Global’s head of experiential and growth, Andy Dougan; Identity’s group managing director, Michael Gietzen and Ministry of Sound’s marketing and partnerships manager, George Thomas. More to be announced soon.

“Technology and innovation is clearly having a huge positive impact on the experience sector,” said Dougan. He wants to see entries that have richer combinations of experience, innovation, UX and content.

He continued: “Frame your response in the context of how your event or experience will positively impact the guest. Of course ROI is important and we now have the tools to demonstrate just how well an experience achieves its KPIs but it is also about the less tangible, the feel good factor, the behaviour change inspired by an experience – ultimately how did your guests or attendees feel?

“Make sure there is a genuine insight behind the ideas and experiences you have created. Oh and keep it simple and jargon free.”

Archbold is keen to see entrants focus on storytelling to bring the execution to life. She said: “Place context on all detail. Having judged the awards previously there are such a wide scope of entrants it is often difficult to decide a winner on results alone.”

She concluded: “There is still a nervousness from some brands/individuals to invest and experiment in events. The Drum Experience Awards are an important way to showcase the excellent work undertaken by the talented individuals within our industry. Awards such as this will also continue to challenge the industry to raise standards, so we may continue to attract talent to choose events as a career path.”

The Drum Experience Awards are open for entry. The deadline is Thursday 30 August, so make sure you download your entry pack and show the world the amazing campaigns and projects you have been producing.
