Ex-England, Everton and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has shared his views on what business managers can learn from football managers.

Allardyce, speaking at the TalkSport pub which was open during the first England game of the World Cup in Cannes, offered his tips to The Drum on dealing with individuals on a one-on-one basis and other insights he has gleaned from his long career in the game.

During the interview he also offered some insights on when he had to use the hairdryer treatment (an infamous term originally coined by Sir Alex Ferguson about losing his temper in the dressing room) at Everton last season.

On why he believed that business managers could learn from the experience of managers in the beautiful game, he said: “If you are running a business that are high profile commodities like a football club and also cost a lot of money to run, the product is the player. Whereas with most businesses, the employees make or produce the product.

"In football, players can answer back and that is where you have got to be very careful. I would say that you put your experience into a small pocket of the squad that and ask them what their opinion is, and the staff you also ask what their opinion is too. And from that, find the crux of the problem or what the benefits are, because it is not working.

"[In] every business it’s how you deal with your employees that counts. You will fall or die not by what you produce but by how you treat your staff, and if you treat them exceptionally well then they will work much harder for you."
