Alibaba teams with sporting goods retailer Intersport to launch ‘New Retail Megastore’
Alibaba has partnered with sporting goods retailer Intersport to launch a ‘New Retail Megastore’ as it continues its expansion into bricks-and-mortar stores.

Alibaba launches new retail megastore in Beijing
The Tmall x Intersport Megastore, which will be located in Beijing’s Qianmen district, will leverage Tmall’s new retail infrastructure including customer insights, supply chain management, retail technologies, smart logistics and electronic payments to provide customers with a seamless online to offline experience.
The store will feature a range of A.I-driven interactive features including AI-Shopping Assistants and smart mirrors, which will recommend items and provide fashion advice to customers, Interactive Window Displays, which will recommend products based on gender and age as well as displaying coupons and promotions and Smart Shelf technology, which provide product information when a person interacts with items including details for products not on display.
The Tmall x Intersport Megastore will also enable customers to scan items into a virtual shopping bag and finalise orders on Tmall at a later time, and request delivery.
Jessica Liu, president of Tmall Fashion and Luxury, said, “We are excited to see an extensive range of Tmall’s New Retail technologies and features under one roof in Intersport’s store.
“What’s even more encouraging is to see our merchants embracing the New Retail concept and exploring its potential. When customers try out these features firsthand, we are confident that they will see the convergence of online and offline shopping as the future of retail.”
Victor Duran, chief executive of Intersport said, “The world-class technologies from Alibaba’s Tmall will give our customers an entirely new shopping experience and help us link our offline and online activities. Intersport is the world’s leading performance sporting goods retailer and has a long history, dating back to 1968. More than anyone else in the market, we understand the importance of evolving with time, while continuing to offer the best customer experience – something that has always been at the heart of our business.” said
The store is the latest offering from Alibaba’s new retail strategy, which aims to merge the brand’s online experience into bricks and mortar retail environments in a bid to increase the company’s retail presence. Alibaba is currently rolling out its new retail supermarkets Hema across the country.
