In her new role, she is tasked with innovating the agency and adding to its client list, she replaces Rick Hirst, who is being teased for a new global role at the company.
Sutherland will report into Matthew Platts, chief executive of media brands.
Having been in the network since 1999, Sutherland has served at Fetch and before this as chief operating officer of Vizeum.
At Fetch, she is credited with delivering on the mobile-first roadmap and doubling revenues in the first two years of her tenure. The group also picked up clients including The Telegraph Media Group and Yolt.
Stef Calcraft, executive chairman, Dentsu Aegis Network UK and Ireland, said: “Jo brings a dynamic mobile-first philosophy to the heart of the business. She is a progressive leader with a collaborative style that inspires more innovative ideas and solutions for our clients, our people and our media partners.”
Sutherland added: "Carat is continually challenging the media status quo by putting innovation central to its clients' business agendas and by tapping into the diverse capabilities of our entire network. I'm delighted to join the team at this exciting time and lead the business through its next period of growth.”
Fetch is readying to name Sutherland’s replacement, who has already been selected.
