Utility provider Npower is marking its sponsorship of Team England with the launch of a humorous social media campaign starring comedian Mark Watson.

Devised by 1000heads the campaign is centred on a series of tongue-in-cheek videos in which Watson catches up with members of the basketball, volleyball and lawn bowls teams to dispense his unique brand of training and support.

1000heads senior account director Hazem El Taha said: “We loved the idea of making Mark our super fan and helping bring to life the #PowerofSupport concept using comedy. The stories and the humour behind the videos are designed to bring fans and athletes together and enlist support for Team England through their ‘shareability’.”

Ed Madden, head of marketing at Npower added: “Through the Team England campaign and championing England’s athletes, we are ensuring that the npower brand stays current, energetic and relevant.

“Working with agencies like 1000heads on the campaign allows us to move beyond simply placing our logo on the games and into space where Npower is positioned as a more integral part of the experience.”

Each video will be shared on both Npower and Watson’s own social channels with the intention of sparking conversations and fostering support for England’s sports men and women.

Last week Team England launched a digital platform to unite its fanbase for the Gold Coast Games.
