Lloyds brings Richard Warren in-house from GroupM

The Drum has learned that Warren, who only joined GroupM in August last year, will take on the role of director of marketing and communications from June.

The move by Warren, less than a year after he joined the agency set up by WPP to service the huge financial services media account, will come as a surprise internally, however it does mean it retains an ally within one of its biggest clients.

He will report to Catherine Kehoe, managing director, of group brands and marketing at LBG.

Warren had reported to GroupM UK chief executive, Nick Theakstone who has since gone onto an expanded remit as global chief investment officer while MEC and Maxus have undergone a merger to become Wavemaker as part of WPP’s current consolidation strategy.

“I am delighted that Richard is joining our team bringing his wealth of communications experience and proven leadership to drive forward our marketing agenda,” said Kehoe, in a statement.

“Richard has worked alongside LBG for many years and shares our passion for customers and brands. He will lead our media and creative strategy ensuring we continue to build strong brands in the market and put our customers at the heart of everything we do.”

Theakstone added: “Richard has done a great job over the last year, building one of our strongest GroupM UK client teams.

“His appointment further reinforces the importance of media and creativity working in tandem at both client and agency level and I know he will be an incredibly effective client at Lloyds. We look forward to working with him and all the team going forward.”

Prior to joining Greenhouse GroupM he held the post of UK chief executive of MullenLowe Group.
