Taboola & ZTE ink deal to launch mobile content discovery service to rival Apple News

ZTE has a 12% market share in North America / Taboola

Taboola and ZTE have penned a deal that will see the content discovery service and device manufacturer offer a news aggregation service similar to Apple News that will help connect Android device users to new content on their device.

The planned service is geared towards helping connect ZTE customers to news content direct from their home screens in a partnership it hopes will open up a significant revenue stream for the manufacturer – the ninth largest in the world.

The exclusive partnership marks the first time that ZTE will see the pairing utilize Taboola’s personalized content news aggregator to help push the news aggregation service directly to publishers’ websites – an element that differs from Apple News, which maintains users within the Apple ecosystem.

ZTE has a 12% market share, making it the fourth largest device manufacturer in North America behind Apple, Samsung and LG according to Counterpoint Technology.

Commenting on the pairing, a ZTE spokesman said: “From the moment a user wakes their phone, they are looking to engage with something and we want that experience to be personalized and tailored for each user wherever they may be in their day.”

Adam Singolda, Taboola, chief executive, added: “I believe the next generation will not look for things, and instead, will live in a world where content, videos and news will be waiting at their fingertips - looking for people. It’s our mission to power Discovery for consumers and curate these experiences so they are tailored for each person.”
