After a lengthy gestation period where The Drum's boffins attempted to invent the uninventable, a unique new awards design has been developed for the season ahead, only these are awards with a difference, as they can deliver themselves to the winners.

Inspired by the self-driving slipper from Nissan, the decision was taken, in association with NB Studio, to create something completely new for the new design of The Drum’s awards – which include The Social Buzz, The Dadi’s and The Online Media Awards, among many more handed out at ceremonies through out the year.

The award has been test driven by experts and is now almost ready to hit the road, revealed editor-in-chief of The Drum, Gordon Young.

“This was actually a extremely tricky development that had to take into account variables such as carpet shag pile depth and wait staff collision avoidance so well done to the team for getting this to work. However, we are hopefully the efficiency gains should allow us to dramatically increase the number of our categories. Also big thanks to NB Design for designing the look of the trophy which will be revealed for the first time at The Drum Design Awards,” he added.

The self-driving award will be fully unveiled and speeding their way to the first recipients at The Drum Design Awards on 7 June at the London Emirates Stadium. Nominations will be revealed on 18 April.
