Serving as group chief commercial officer, Carter, who was previously managing director of commercial at the company, will look to broaden the group’s appeal to advertisers, especially on the digital front where News UK is chasing scale.

Carter will handle ad propositions for print, digital, video and audio and The Bridge and Wireless commercial teams will report directly to him. He will work alongside Unruly chief executive Norm Johnston who comes into his position in earnest next week.

Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News UK, said: “Dominic’s direct portfolio now includes everything from The Times, The Sun, The Sunday Times, The Sun on Sunday to Virgin Radio, talkSPORT and talkRADIO. Our focus is to continue investing in growing these audiences across the board to the benefit of all our customers."

Carter added: “I am immensely proud to be given the opportunity to lead such talented sales teams across Wireless and News UK. Harnessing the power of all our brands into a cross-platform offering, and working ever more closely with Norm and the Unruly team gives us a unique proposition for advertisers and clients.”

Additionally, Jo Bucci has joined Wireless Group to serve as chief operating officer, coming form the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Bucci said: “I am very pleased to return to my radio roots at what is a very exciting time for the company. I strongly believe the future holds great opportunities for Wireless and look forward to playing an important role in the next chapter for the group."
