The Chip Shop Chalkboard Challenge: see the ads that aim to save the British Boozer
As the industry preps for Advertising Week Europe 2018, we look back on this time last year. The Drum issued a call to the creative community to devise and produce adverts using pub chalkboards which were available at The Drum Arms’17. Here we look at what the industry came up with through The Chip Shop Awards Chalkboard Challenge.

Ad Insight: Less people go to the pub because people are saying home but it's not the same as having a pint - it's actually pretty boring.
The ad uses Iconography and wording of the pub to emulate if your home was a pub - calling it The Couch and Telly - toshow drinking at home just isn't the same so go for a pint at your local pub. We also want to show that it's more about the atmosphere than just a drink.

Ad Insight: the solution from the GR team was to create a simple yet important image that would hammer home the message and create an emergency feel using the language of 'pull lever in case of emergency.' That's what is reflected in the image.

Doner
Ad insight: Based on the kebab linking to the pint and linking the popular pub tradition. Lots of pubs are closing down and this is a traditional end of evening thing that everyone loves!!!
This is about keeping traditional things going - the kebab and the pint do go arm in arm after all.

This year we are returning to our Advertising Week 2018 with The Drum and The Sun Arms. Join us at our London boozer to share a pint with some of the industry’s leading experts and enjoy everything from panel discussions, pub lunches, debates to our karaoke night. Don’t miss out, register here.
