Agency wins

Publicis is to launch a new Berlin-based agency to service its newly won Mercedes-Benz account. The automobile company has appointed Publicis as its global network and digital agency, and according to chief executive Arthur Sadoun, the brief is one of Publicis' "most significant wins".

In honour of Emil Jellinek, the original creator of the Mercedes trademark, the agency will be named Publicis Emil and will serve over 40 markets. The brief was awarded after a six-month pitch against the incumbent agency BBDO.

Adobe, the software and technology provider, has appointed Wavemaker, GroupM's media, content and technology agency, to lead its media efforts in the US. Adobe has directed the agency to develop on and offline media communications planning and buying across its creative, experience and document product groups.

L'Oreal-owned cosmetics brand Vichy has awarded McCann Paris with its global account, a brief previously held by TBWA\Paris.

The agency has been tasked with creating a new global communication platform for the brand, which specialises in skincare, anti-aging and moisturisers.

Hermès Perfumes has tasked Claire Goodwin Consultancy with directing its press relations in the UK. The agency will oversee communication between Hermès and UK press, as well as managing relationships with influencers.

Independent energy provider OVO Energy has announced the appointment of Uncommon Creative Studio as brand consultants. The brief marks Uncommon's first major client win since launching at the end of 2017.

D&D London has appointed Roland Dransfield to handle PR for the launch of its new restaurant, 20 Stories. The appointment is a coup for the Mancunian agency, which only launched its consumer division in July.

4711, the 222-year-old German parfumier, has hired Catalyst PR to handle its PR and social media services.

Catalyst aim to generate a greater product and brand awareness of 4711 in the UK and increase brand engagement across all platforms.

The Southern Californian city of El Segundo has hired Phelps as its agency of record. Phelps will create the city's first full marketing and PR campaign, with the aim of establishing El Segundo as a popular tourist destination.

Reviews

The BBC World Service has issued a tender for media planning and buying agencies to join its roster. The Corporation recently received additional government funding to launch 12 new language services internationally.

Acquisitions

Forbes Media has acquired business magazine The Memo, as part of plans to expand into the European market.

Forbes' current London team will relocate to new premises to accommodate their new colleagues, and The Memo's website will redirect to Forbes from 1 March.

Neilsen has bought Ebiquity's AdIntel unit in an attempt to bolter its marketing intelligence services. Ebiquity reportedly plan on focusing on media value and marketing performance measurement services.

Branding and design firm Character has been acquired by Dentsu Aegis. According to Dentsu, the San Francisco-based agency will sit at the cornerstone of the network's branding and design operations. Character will maintain its current leadership team.

Elmwood, the brand design consultancy, has boosted its digital design toolkit with the acquisition of Framework Creative. The AR and VR specialists will continue to operate as a standalone business, under the Elmwood umbrella.

CRM-specialist Armadillo CRM has announced a management buy-out of the business.

In a move coinciding with the company's 25th anniversary, chief executive James Ray, executive chairman Chris Thurling and chief financial officer Andy Brown are all due to take a stake.
