Wired halves mag frequency

In a note from editor Greg Williams in the most recent issue, it was revealed that the UK mag will halve its print frequency.

Rather than blaming the change on circulation or lower returns from print, the leader stated that the company will boost its investment in its digital platform where it claims to have had an 80% increase in traffic in 2017. It also directed subscribers to its social channels and Wired Awake newsletter.

The note read: “Our commitment to the highest-quality writing, editing, art direction and photography remains core to our mission.

“But we recognise that Wired’s calls on your attention are growing across all our output, so we have decided to alter the publication schedule for the printed magazine to six issues per year. Nothing will change other than the frequency – every issue will contain all the usual features, sections and quality we know you expect from Wired.”

The change marks a problem for subscribers who expect a certain amount of magazines for their annual membership. To assuage the blow, they will receive the same amount of issues they were due, just over a longer period.

Wired UK launched in 2009.
