Brand-bound: Anonymous Content signs on Oscar-nominated 'Mudbound' director Dee Rees

Film and commercial production firm Anonymous Content announced the addition of Rees, director of the Oscar-nominated Netflix film Mudbound, for commercial representation.

Rees isn't a stranger to commercial work, she recently joined a group of female directors to helm a series of spots for Walmart on Oscars night, according to Variety. Anonymous, which also does film management and production, has also been known to produce branded content for top names, including Prada, Nike, Coke, and BMW—the firm was responsible for the award-winning branded content for BMW Films.

The deal adds an additional spotlight to talent creating content for the streaming service; Netflix has seen an increase of over eight million subscribers and an 8% increase in revenue over the past year, due to critical acclaim for Rees' film, the second season of Stranger Things and the return of Black Mirror.

“Dee is a fearless talent and an important voice in our industry,” says Eric Stern, Anonymous Content’s managing director and partner. “We couldn’t be happier that she’s joined the Anonymous Content family.”

"I'm very excited to be working with the cool creators and storytellers over at Anonymous and can't wait to play around with some fun and interesting short-form art," says Rees.

Rees, an award winning director already who won four Emmys for her HBO film, Bessie, and also directed episodes of Fox's Empire and ABC's miniseries When We Rise on the gay civil rights movement.
