This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key moves from the EMEA, APAC and North America regions below.

EMEA people are on the move

Paddy Power

Paddy Power named Michelle Spillane as its new marketing and brand director for the UK and Ireland.

Spillane will be responsible for executive duties and projects. Prior to this, Spillane served as director of global marketing with Irish national TV broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTE). She also held leadership positions at Microsoft Ireland, Bank of Ireland and ITV.

AKQA

AKQA has appointed Jo Hickson as head of technology to lead the core practice out of AKQA’s London studio. She will report to Sam Kelly, managing director of AKQA’s London studio, and will also join the leadership team. Hickson joins from TUI where she was head of innovation.

Ebiquity

​Ebiquity appointed Jason Bailis as its global chief operating officer.

Bailis will manage the day-to-day business across Ebiquity's practice areas and regions alongside other core operational activities. Prior to this, Bailis completed a 10-year tenure at Publicis Groupe, including senior vice president of business operations for Razorfish Global and chief operating office of Razorfish International.

Starcom

Starcom has appointed Hamid Habib, former chief strategy and innovation officer at OMD, as its new UK managing director.

He reports to Jodie Stranger, chief executive and president of global network clients, EMEA at Starcom.

Havas UK

Havas UK has reinforced its commitment to eroding divisions between its creative and media groups with the elevation of former creative chief marketing officer (CCMO) Tracey Barber to the position of group CMO.

Barber’s promotion will see her assume responsibilities for all Havas UK’s agencies, including its media businesses, together with sole responsibility for all marketing, new business and PR activity across the group.

Twitter

Twitter's chief operating officer Anthony Noto is to depart the company to join finance startup SoFi as chief executive officer.

Noto, who has been with the firm since 2014, has also held the position of chief finance officer at the social network.

Social Chain Group

Social Chain Group has made a slew of appointments in a bid to bolster its senior team.

The key hires include; former head of digital at the MailOnline Matt Breen as commercial director at Media Chain; Michael Hodkinson as Media Chain sales director; Sharlene Henley has been appointed as Social Chain planning director.

Also joining is Paul Stevens as operations director and Adam Mills as head of talent and development.

Starcom

Hamid Habib has left his position of chief strategy and innovation officer at OMD to become Starcom UK's managing director of the UK.

In the new role, Habib will handle the companies growth and new business, while also building the company's Human Experience.

MC&C

MC&C bolsters its team with three significant hires from Barclays, Havas Group UK, and Quandrangle Reserch Group Limited.

Nicola Shepherd-Banks, former Barclays head of media, joins as chief client officer while Havas Group UK's Emily Underhill takes the role of new business director. Finally, Ali Sargeant has been appointed as head of people, formerly Quandrangle Research Group Limited.

Teads

Jamie Toward, Charlotte Williamson and Ian Webber have all joined Teads as industry directors as the company continues with its global growth plan.

Toward joined from Accenture/Karmarama where he held the role of managing partner, content; Williamson brings experience from the FT where she was head of luxury; and Webber joined from AOL where he held the role of global head of automotive.

Evening Standard

George Osborn has announced the appointment of Julian Glober as associate editor to head up the comment section while also writing for the newspaper.

Having previously been lead writer and columnist at the Guardian for 10 years, Glober brings a wealth of experience to the role.

City A.M

Harry Owen has been appointed as chief operations officer at City A.M in a bid to further develop the brands product and service offering across business and lifestyle.

Takumi

Influencer marketing platform, Takumi, has appointed Adam Sven Williams as chief revenue officer.

Previously Spotify's managing director for the UK, Benelux and Ireland, Williams will be tasked with driving revenue across every aspect of the company.

APAC people on the move

Ogilvy India

Ogilvy India promoted Prem Narayan as the chief strategy officer of Ogilvy India and named Balagopalan Ganapathy as head of planning, Ogilvy Mumbai.

Narayan will lead the planning team and will continue to partner the CCOs and business heads to deliver solutions to clients nationally. Prem will report directly to Kunal Jeswani.

Geometry Global

Geometry Global Japan has poached Andreas Möllmann as its chief strategy officer/ head of digital from Berlin-based creative agency antoni, where he was head of strategy.

Prior to antoni, Möllmann managed strategy at BBDO, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as SapientNitro and Isobar on regional and global brands in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Amsterdam and London.

Adobe

Adobe has appointed Damon Scarr as the new head of ad cloud sales for APAC and announced that Philip Cronin will join the comapny to lead partner engagement.

Scarr will take on responsibility for the enterprise sales go-to-market strategy and growth acceleration for Adobe’s ad cloud business across the region, while Cronin brings extensive corporate experience to Adobe after spending 18 years with Intel.

Universal McCann

UM Australia has promoted Maria Grivas to chief data and technology officer. She previously held the role of chief digital officer for the past six years and steps into her new role effective immediately.

Grivas will lead the transformation of data through exploration and analysis to uncover patterns, opportunities and insights to drive evidence-based decision-making solutions for clients.

Publicis One

Publicis One Philippines has hired Gladys Basinillo as chief growth officer of its media and capabilities brands including Starcom, Spark Foundry and Liquid Thread (social, content and influencer management). Basinillo has been tasked with driving growth for these three brands.

Basinillo was most recently CEO of Carat Philippines and is the brains behind Fusion, the country’s music festival that celebrates Filipino musicality and promotes the Philippines as a musical hub for Asia.

J Walter Thompson

J Walter Thompson Bangkok has appointed Park Wansiri as executive creative director and Thasorn ‘Pete’ Boonyanate as creative director / head of content and digital, joining chief creative officer João Braga’s creative team.

Park joins from BBDO where he held the role of creative director, while Thasorn joins from BBDO Shanghai, where he held the same role.

Storyful

Storyful, a News Corp-owned social media insights and content company, announced today that Mandy Jenkins has taken the role of editor in chief.

Jenkins previously served as the firm’s head of news and will continue to lead Storyful’s growing newsroom. As editor in chief, she has the responsibility of expanding the team’s research and verification services as well as their industry-leading social verification for breaking and viral news.

Publicis Groupe

Publicis Groupe has announced the hiring of Nick Law as its new global chief creative officer, as well as president of Publicis Communications.

Law had previously been with IPG agency R/GA since 2001, elevating all the way to the role of vice chair, global chief creative officer. In his tenure there, he'd led the agency to many wins across the industry and the development of a slew of R/GA’s most innovative projects.

Wieden+Kennedy Portland

Nicole Jacek and Noreen Morioka have been hired to head up the 100+ person design studio at the agency's HQ in Portland, Oregon.

Taking on the role of as heads of design, Jacek and Morioka will oversee client projects, creative direction and business development for the growing design studio, which has recently completed projects for Nike, KFC and Airbnb.

The duo is relocating to Portland from Los Angeles, where Jacek has been running her own design agency NJ(LA) since 2013.

As chief creative officer at Tatcha, Morioka was managing both the designers and cross-functional teams across products for the US, China and Japan markets.

DDB New York

DDB New York announced the appointment of Lisa Topol and Derek Barnes as co-chief creative officers.

Before joining DDB New York, Topol and Barnes spent four years at Grey working across multiple clients such as NFL, TNT Networks, Best Buy and Bose. Both as a team and individually, they’ve been recognized at Cannes, One Show, D&AD, Clios and Effies.

They will begin their new roles at the agency in March.

We Are Unlimited

We Are Unlimited has welcomed James Lou as chief strategy officer, effective early February.

Speaking about his appointment, Lou said: "I look forward to taking our integrated data-driven model to the next level and helping our agency define what the Agency of the Future can do for our client’s business."

Ad Council

The Ad Council has promoted Kenneth Kroll to chief financial officer. Kroll, who was promoted from senior vice president, finance, has been with the Ad Council for ten years. He succeeds Jon Fish who left the organization in 2016.

In his new role, Kroll will continue to oversee and direct the financial operations of the non-profit organization. He will also continue to serve on the Ad Council’s Leadership Team, advising the team on organizational strategies and opportunities that have a financial impact on the business.

Epsilon

Barry Burdiak joins Epsilon from DDB Chicago as executive creative director and senior vice president.

Burdiak has spent nearly 30 years at DDB overseeing McDonald’s, Budweiser and State Farm (Discount Double Check) businesses as senior vice president, group creative director. He is a six-time Cannes Lions winner and three-time Emmy Award nominee (largely for Budweiser work) who’s delivered 17 Top 10 Super Bowl Spots (including three that have taken the #1 spot on USA Today’s Ad Meter) since 1997.

Pernod Ricard

Pernod Ricard USA appointed Jonas Tåhlin chief marketing officer spirits USA and chief executive officer Absolut Elyx USA. He will remain a member of the North American Pernod Ricard executive team, reporting to Paul Duffy, chairman and chief executive officer.

Mistress

LA-based indie Mistress has named Allison Barnes as director of media, Kristin Busk as director of social strategy and Iman Forde as director of project management.

With over 20 years of experience, Barnes steps in from Supermoon, following the merger of the two agencies last year. She previously in leadership at top media agencies including Starcom Mediavest.

Busk, with seven years experience, counts stints at Madison + Vine, Vowel and The Audience as part of her path, working across all digital tiers, especially focused on the entertainment space.

Forde steps into an elevated position after being at the agency for nearly three years, where she started as project manager.

W2O Group

W2O Group, a network of complementary analytics and insights-driven, digital marketing communications firms, today announced the appointment of Jennifer Gottlieb to president.

In this newly created role, Gottlieb will have responsibility for three operating companies, W2O wcg, W2O twist and W2O pure. She will continue to report to founder and chief executive Jim Weiss, who retains responsibility for overall firm strategy and operations globally as well as business development, innovation and marketing.

PebblePost

PebblePost, a programmatic direct mail company, announced Jacquelyn Goldberg's appointment to vice president sales, financial services. Previously, Goldberg served as PebblePost's first director of sales. In this new role, she will help financial service companies connect to consumers through physical mail, as PebblePost continues to expand into new verticals.
