The switch will dovetail with a full redesign of its packaging to become less environmentally damaging combined with a renewed focus on recycling initiatives and a push for zero plastic bottle waste.

To achieve its ambitious goal Evian and brand owner Danone are partnering with Loop Industries which has developed technology to convert all forms of PET plastic waste into material suitable for re-use in bottle manufacture.

Evian global brand director, Patricia Oliva remarked: “Rooted in its pioneering spirit and long-lasting commitment towards sustainability, Evian will drive a step-change to address the critical issue of plastic. We want to use the power of our global brand to take a leadership position, drive collaboration across the industry and, together with partners, transform our approach to plastic. We’re committed to move the mindset of today’s generation from ‘we can’ to ‘we do’.”

Going even further Evian will seek to change consumer behavior too via its #herothezero initiative which will help educate the wider public about the harmful impact plastic can have on the environment if not disposed of properly.

Pret a Manger is also playing its part to save the planet with the roll out of reusable bottles at its Veggie Pret outlets.
