Disney has announced that Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey will not seek re-election to Walt Disney board because of growing conflicts of interest between the media giant and the technology companies.

Sheryl Sandberg won’t stand for re-election to Disney board

The move came into light after Disney’s annual proxy statement had Sandberg’s and Dorsey’s names missing from the list of directors standing for re-election.

Disney said in a statement: “Given our evolving business and the businesses Ms. Sandberg and Mr. Dorsey are in, it has become increasingly difficult for them to avoid conflicts relating to board matters, and they are not standing for re-election."

Disney is close to snaring $60bn Fox in mass media consolidation. Disney further aims to venture into online streaming of its TV shows and movies while Twitter and Facebook are aiming to engage audience through their own video content.
