As the end of 2017 approaches, The Drum has asked leaders in the industry what has put a bee in their bonnet this year via the medium of AdVent.

In the video above, Helen McRae, chief executive officer at Mindshare, shared her thoughts on a range of things that have bothered her, including the importance of diversity in the industry beyond gender diversity.

Mindshare currently runs an internship programme to give those from different backgrounds an opportunity, regardless of their education, race or age. She said: “We as media agencies need to reflect the UK population, not just the London bubble.”

Discussing the challenges in 2017, McRae is hoping 2018 will be the year that people begin to see them as opportunities.

She explained: “We have focused more on talking about all the challenges and reacting to those challenges, which are all very important and they are key issues that we need to address and solve and put measures in place.

“But it is also about creating and talking a narrative around opportunities, around the infinite horizon that media actually gives us.”

Last week saw Mindshare lose its global account with Jaguar Land Rover to Dentsu. Catch the rest of AdVent here.
