Vice Media is beefing up its senior staff in Asia Pacific as it plans significant expansion into the region in 2018, hiring Nilesh Zaveri as chief operating officer (COO) and chief finance officer (CFO) of Vice Asia Pacific.
Zaveri joins Vice from Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, where he held the CFO role. He will report into Vice APAC chief executive officer (CEO) Hosi Simon, who moved over to lead the region and start Vice’s Asia Pacific hub in Singapore.
“As we build out our Singapore headquarters into an engine for activity across the Asia Pacific region, we were looking for someone with deep experience in the region that can help us accelerate growth,” said Vice APAC CEO Hosi Simon.
“Nilesh’s expertise across the region, specifically in India, China, and Southeast Asia will have an immediate and significant impact as we continue to assemble top-tier talent and partner with leading media entities and brands throughout these territories,” he added.
Zaveri’s announcement follows quickly after the announcement from Vice that it was planning a major expansion for the region, including launching much of its services, as well as a raft of local partnerships with media brands and broadcasters.
Zaveri’s role will be to oversee the financial and operational strategy of the business, as well as looking after strategic partnerships and talent recruitment.
“This is a unique opportunity to be a part of an ambitious vision which allows me to leverage my Asia experience to develop successful business models. The online video market across APAC is the next frontier, and with VICE, which has an unrivalled understanding of youth media consumption habits, we are in a unique position of strength to unlock its true potential,” said Zaveri.
Prior to Discovery Networks, Zaveri was CFO for Fox Sports Asia and held several roles at 21st Century Fox in Singapore, Hong Kong and Mumbai.
