Tangent has launched a chatbot on Facebook Messenger that allows fans of the Netflix show 'Stranger Things' to uncover series trivia, stay up-to-date with latest news and even talk to the Upside Down, a parallel universe home to the dreaded ‘Demogorgon’.

The Messenger bot, named El after series’ character ‘Eleven’, was prototyped using a combination of pre-determined answers and natural language processing allowing for free text input. The strategy team at Tangent built the bot in less than a week.

Nadine Clarke, lead strategist at Tangent said: “All of our watercooler moments in the past two weeks have been about Stranger Things, so we decided to mix two of our greatest interests: AI and the Netflix show. We’ve been playing with a number of the chatbot platforms for a while and we thought this was the perfect excuse to give someone in our strategy team time to develop an exciting MVP around the show.

"The brief was to come up with a way to engage fans, that may be at different points of watching the show, through messaging, so we created a conversation experience that guides fans through loads of interactive content. From music playlists, the latest news, character trivia and a quirky interaction with ‘the wall’, we’ve set the scene for an experience that we’ll just keep building on.”

The El Bot can be found here.
