Starbucks has signalled the start of the festive season claiming “the cup is just the beginning” in an inclusive ad push.

Marking 20 years since Starbucks launched its first seasonal cup, the 2017 iteration has been described as “an ode to the years” by the brand’s executive creative director Leanne Fremar, with coffee fans encouraged to create unique designs colouring in the cups’ white space.

The accompanying ad starts with someone colouring, along with the caption: “The holidays mean something different to everyone”. Featured in the ad are an older woman and her male partner, a woman FaceTiming her elderly relatives and a female same-sex couple leaning in for a kiss whilst holding a cup together.

The campaign sees Starbucks join the likes of Tiffany & Co., Honey Maid and Absolut by featuring a same-sex couple in its ad.

In recent years, Starbucks has been a supporter of Pride in London.
