Donald Trump’s Twitter mouthpiece was silenced for 11 minutes yesterday by a rogue employee after a customer service assistant deactivated the presidential platform in their last act with the social media firm.

@realdonaldtrump has become the first port of call for anyone wishing to stay abreast of the president’s policy announcements, attacks on ‘fake news’ media and patriotic musings; drawing 41.7m followers and cementing Twitter’s position as the go-to social media platform for political gossip.

Responding to the outage in a tweet Twitter stated: “We have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer-support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review.”

Trump appears to have taken the unexpected downtime in his stride however, resuming his tweet salvo as though nothing had happened when normal service was resumed, writing: “Great Tax Cut rollout today. The lobbyists are storming Capital Hill, but the Republicans will hold strong and do what is right for America!”

Twitter is now conducting a full internal audit to discover how its internal systems and checks failed so spectacularly, raising questions about its ability to manage even its most high-profile accounts in the face of mischief making employees.

Twitters misfortune follows an admission that it had miscounted user numbers as revenues decline.
