Animation, motion design and video production studio Breakfast of Champions has revealed its involvement in the BBC’s latest cooking show ‘The Big Family Cooking Showdown’, where 16 families go head-to-head to secure the title of Britain’s best family of home cooks.

Theresa Hilsden, head of design, at the London-based studio was tasked with creating a look and feel for the title sequence and menu graphics shown throughout the show. She explored a number of styles for the project, including a folksy, highly patterned approach and a more illustrative and brightly coloured theme before settling on a more graphic, font-driven design for the series logo.

Hilsden said: “This clean, pared-down design with symmetrical lines was both modern and simple and lent itself perfectly to three main accent colours. For the menu cards, we played around with sketches of ingredients and settled on a design that used colour blocking, typography and graphic illustration to create something simple and stylish, again with three beautiful accent colours.

“I loved working on this! And as a long time Bake Off fan, it was lovely to meet Nadiya Hussain when we were shooting footage for the title sequence.”

The Big Family Cooking Showdown airs every Thursday at 8pm on BBC2.
