Actor and musician David Hasselhoff has appeared in promotional material for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 after fans reacted positively to his bizarre cameo in the movie.

Underlining his pseudo-appearance in the film as protagonist Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) personified image of the perfect dad, the Hoff has tied into the studio’s music-centric marketing around the Guardians franchise, which has led to partnerships with Doritos and Spotify.

A handful of dancers in low-budget alien costumes set the scene, while the Hoff, overlaid with a gritty VHS sheen reminiscent of an era in which he was a definitive star, showcases his musical talents.

He concludes: "Just remember, in these times of hardship: We. Are. Groot."

Movie director James Gunn reportedly birthed the idea in order to help bolster the sales of his movie, which will be available on BluRay 22 August and digital download 8 August.

Several years ago, The Drum interviewed the Hoff whereupon he declared brands should "let the audience decide what's funny". It appears this has happened in Marvel's latest marketing push.
