Tasty One Top marks BuzzFeed’s debut foray into the world of connected household gadgets after being made available for pre-order for the princely sum of $149. An induction cooker with a difference, it can connect with an accompanying Tasty app for iPhone which comes pre-installed with 1,700 video recipes.
Dovetailing with the second anniversary of BuzzFeed’s Tasty division the gizmo illustrates BuzzFeed’s growing clout as a foodie haven, describing itself as the largest social food network in the world.
Ashley McCollum, general manager of Tasty, remarked: “In two years, Tasty has reimagined the recipe format as a visual, shareable and interactive medium, democratizing food and making cooking more accessible, social and fun in the process. The Tasty One Top and app demonstrates our commitment to the intersection of content and technology, marking the beginning of the next step in the evolution of our business as we expand into new ways of using technology to bring people together around food.”
The Tasty One Top was designed by BuzzFeed Product Labs with assistance from GE Appliance’s First Build team and claims to be able to accurately track the temperature of a pot or pan in real time for optimal cooking.
