SEO company The Hoth convinced 32 people to tattoo its mascot on themselves

Calling it a “creative way to fund your SEO budget”, SEO company The Hoth asked consumers to get its monster mascot “tattooed somewhere on your body” in its Hoth Tattoo Contest.

In exchange for $3000 in so-called Hoth Credits that can be used toward services to “make a massive impact on your SEO” and $2500 in cash for first prize, the SEO company asked consumers to get tattoos that include a Hoth monster at least one inch in size that also says “The Hoth”.

The Hoth provided a link to downloadable branding assets to take to the tattoo artist and said participants needed to fill out a form and upload a video of the process, as well as photos of the finished product, to participate. The Hoth also offered to reimburse the cost of the tattoo up to $250.

After originally seeking 15 participants, the Hoth expanded the field to 32 and, through June 30, invited Hoth customers to pick their favorites in a bracket-style competition.

The 1st place winner will receive $2500 while 2nd and 3rd will receive $1000 and $500, respectively, and the voter who most closely predicts the winners of each round will receive $1000.

The SEO company said its name is an acronym for Hittem’ Over The Head and its Hoth Monster is a symbol that illustrate its mission to “bludgeon you with awesomeness”.

“When we started the Hoth, the industry was plagued by shady providers that hid behind their computers,” the company said in a blog post. “The services were hit or miss and the customer support wasn’t there. This was a big problem for small businesses that needed reliable SEO. We wanted to change that.”

Hoth said its acronym and mascot are a “constant reminder that helps us stand apart from the crowd”.

The Hoth said winners will be announced after each round via Facebook, with the first round winners announced in the first week of July and the final winners announced in late July.
