Kayak, a tech company that says it is focused on making online travel better, is allowing users to search for select destinations by emoji “because spelling things is so 2015”.

Kayak is letting users search for ten destinations via emojis.

Kayak is letting users search for ten destinations via emojis.

Kayak released the first ten searchable emojis, which include the Statue of Liberty for New York, sushi for Tokyo and a giant rabbit for (Chicago) O’Hare, but, in a blog post, it said “debates and hometown rivalries started” thereafter.

As a result, Kayak is asking the general public to decide which cities should represent the next 15 emoji, which include pizza, baseball, beer and poop.

“Whether you’re passionate about your own city or really don’t want Seattle to get the coffee-moji (those hipsters are too smug anyway), vote for your favorites here,” Kayak said.

A Kayak rep was not available for comment by deadline, but the blog post noted emoji search is part of its push to make Kayak a mobile-forward platform.

Kayak is an independently managed subsidiary of The Priceline Group.
