Her appointment comes as Uber struggles to salvage its public image, which has been tainted in recent months due to accusations of internal sexism and sexual harassment. The ride-hailing app recently fired 20 employees following an investigation into sexual harassment and other claims at the company.

“Boz has a long track record of successfully creating emotional connections between people and the products they love. Her creativity and deep understanding of consumers will allow us to build the same love and appreciation for Uber’s brand as we’ve built for Uber’s service,” said Travis Kalanick, chief executive of Uber, in a statement.

At Apple, Saint John was head of global consumer marketing for Apple Music.

Saint John told Recode that she’s well aware of the challenges that lie ahead at Uber.

“I know what I’m walking into,” she said. “I think it’s a really exciting time to tell the story well. Certainly there have been lots of things that have been swirling around [about] Uber but I’m interested in telling the story about the service and what is happening from the brand standpoint. I have to focus on what I have to focus on. There’s not a lot I can do about what’s already happened at Uber.”
