A former VP of advertising, media and digital at burger chain Wendy’s, where he helped mastermind the viral #nuggsforcarter social media campaign, Rhoten will cross the fast food divide to try his hand at pizzas
In a statement Papa John’s president Steve Ritchie said: “He is a disruptor in the quick-service restaurant industry, and we are excited for him to further enhance Papa John's brand relevancy and quality positioning across our marketing channels globally.”
Papa John’s is engaged in a pizza tussle with market leaders Pizza Hut and Domino’s as it seeks to claim a bigger slice of the comfort food market for itself by putting founder and CEO John Schnatter front and centre of its marketing efforts.
Rhoten fills the shoes of his predecessor Bob Kraut who quit after just two years in the post.
Papa John's employs Grey as its creative agency, most recently drawing attention to its dessert menu by showing former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning dressing cupcakes.
