Jennifer Hudson sings her way into American Family Insurance’s newest campaign

American Family Insurance, with creatives from BBDO New York, brought Grammy Award-winning Jennifer Hudson to Atlanta for their latest spot. As a part of their “Insure Carefully, Dream Fearlessly” campaign, American Family has Hudson surprise street musician, Alex Guthrie, with a duet to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day.”

As he sets up Woodruff Park in Atlanta, Guthrie begins to sing. Then Hudson approaches him and jumps right in, reiterating American Family Insurance’s message that any dream is possible with the right support.

“I’ve been living the dream that I had when I was seven years old, so to be able to help others realize theirs is inspiring,” said Jennifer Hudson in a statement. “Music has the power of connecting people and bringing the world together, and that’s what we achieved in these moments.”

In a second spot, Hudson surprises the Morehouse College Glee Club as they record a promo for their spring tour.

“American Family Insurance is committed to helping our customers believe in a brighter future and achieve their dreams,” said Telisa Yancy, chief marketing officer, American Family Insurance, in a statement. “Our marketing is an important reflection of this, and implores people to dream fearlessly, knowing we’re protecting them along the way. Jennifer’s story embodies the commitment it takes to realize your dream and bring people together through music.”

This isn’t the first time that Hudson and AFI paired up. The relationship goes back to the 2015 Super Bowl, with a commercial set in a 1940s diner. Hudson is seen with five people who are pursuing big dreams in real life and they join in singing "o-o-h Child," by the Five Stairsteps.
