Prolific film maker Ridley Scott has embraced virtual reality with an expansion of his studio RSA to handle new video formats - a seal of approval for immersive video from a leading director.

RSA VR will create virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality content. Furthermore, the studio's first client is 20th Century Fox around the movie Alien: Covenant. Not coincidentally, Scott is directing the upcoming installment to the sci-fi series, which will land 18 May.

Jules Daly, president, RSA Films, said the standalone division underlines the company’s commitment to “immersive media in both the brand and entertainment space”.

“Ridley has a long lineage as a pioneer in creative technology, and RSA’s roster includes incredibly talented directors who understand the unique language of VR. We are pleased to offer this formidable resource to our clients.”

20th Century Fox is going all in with branded and immersive experiences around the latest installment of the Alien franchise. Earlier in the year it partnered with RSA to produce 'Meet Walter' a short featuring Michael Fassbender.
