Based in Edinburgh, Coomber, who left Dobbies at the start of the year, will be tasked with overseeing the press and marketing, digital content, education and trading elements for the organisation in a bid to continually increase its international reputation.

Coomber will also be tasked with developing access for the collection through on-site and digital means, while increasing self-generated income as another measure to support the work taking place within NGS.

Sir John Leighton, director-general of NGS, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Jo Coomber to our senior team. Jo brings a wealth of experience in public engagement from her background in various businesses and she will work with colleagues across the Galleries to champion the needs and expectations of our audiences in all our activities."

Coomber has also held roles as head of digital for Standard Life and also as managing director of Elmwood Scotland.
